Major search engines and their development
Google search engine came to the lime light around 2000, which used an innovative search engine method called as page rank, which achieved better results for many searches. It followed an algorithm which ranks web pages depending upon the number of pages ranks of the website in other web pages and number of links available for the site. At that point of time, while many search engines embedded a search engine in web portal, whereas Google used simple interface to its search engines.
Yahoo
Yahoo acquired Inktomi, AlltheWeb and AltaVista in the year 2002 and 2003 and started to provide search services bases on Inktomi. Then in 2004 Yahoo changes to Google’s search engine till 2004, after it launched its own search engine using the using the combined technologies of its acquisitions.
Bing
Earlier called as Live search, Windows live search, and MSN. Using the search results from Inktomi, Microsoft first launched MSN search engine in 1998. It started to use the results from AltaVista in the year 1999, prior it was using Looksmart blended with results from Inktomi. In 2004 it started to use its own search technology, with the help of its own web crawler called as msnbot.
